"Spiritual" Atheists?

As an atheist, in the strictest sense, I don't believe in superstition or the assignment of metephysical power or deeper meaning to my own thoughts, feelings, or circumstances.

I try to live in an objective and literal world.
That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy coincidentally relevant fortune cookie now and then or some beautiful unexpected irony. I just don't attach some cosmic meaning to it, as if to take credit for it through some force.

I see all superstitous thinking as primitave and ridiculous.
More importantantly it is self centered, enabling the believer to think that they are somehow cosmically significant and put themselves at the center of their own personal universe.

To think the arrangement of the stars tells a tale about you or some empowering ghost resides in the music you listen to is just as pretentious as dancing around in a protestant church for Jesus.
To believe in the soul is just another way to pat yourself on the back and encourage the delusion that you are nothing more than a tempoary assemblage of basic elements.

2 - Who are you referring to as flakes and part timers, we very well might be on the same side of this arguement. There may just be a communication problem.

At no point was this post directed at you as a friend or someone that I know.
